The year 2001 witnessed the registration of Conflict Resolution by Youth (CRY) - Uganda (Reg. No.S.5914/3555) as a Non-governmental, not-for-profit, organization in the Republic of Uganda founded by young people for young people. Furthermore, CRY Uganda is also a company limited by guarantee and a membership organization. The organizational slogan is “Youth are a resource”. The formation of CRY Uganda arose out of the desire to change the prevalent culture of violence to that of non-violence in addressing issues that face young people today. These issues are addressed dialogue, peace theater, peace camps, Training & Education, media outreaches, ICT, Sports, networking, advocacy, institutional development, monitoring and evaluation; community outreaches.
Exposure as a basis for change
CRY Uganda firmly believes that young people only need to be exposed to wider horizon in order to change their lifestyles and attitudes. Indeed, this is a guiding principle in CRY’s mission, a bold step in realizing and securing social entrepreneurship. CRY Uganda’s entry point is the violent conflicts evidenced in various areas in Uganda and the world as a whole.
CRY works in diverse places, gathering valuable experience. In Uganda, CRY’s operation’s are countrywide with some specific projects for Lango, Acholi, Karamoja and Teso, in the districts of Lira, Gulu, Moroto, Nakapiripirit, Kitgum, Kumi, Soroti, Katakwi, Amuru, among others. International exposure has also been achieved; in Rwanda and Kenya, through organizing youth peace camps. Some of CRY Uganda projects are carried out in Asia –Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia and Myanmar, Europe- Holland, Lithuania, Norway, Cezch Republic, USA and South Africa
